Welcome to the Fall 2006 Semester

As we embark on the new Fall 2006 semester, I would like to be the first to say "Welcome Back" to the officers, faculty advisors and coordinators! I would also like to say "Welcome" to the new Future Educators Club members and visitors! We have created this blog solely for you, the members, as a means to stay in touch and keep you posted with the latest and greatest information.

As we settle into our schedules and classes, the new campus meetings will be posted on this site in the very near future. Stay tuned!

Kindercaminata

A successful annual Kindercaminata was hosted by several divisions at Cypress College including our Future Educators Club and the Teacher Prep Program staff. Every year, hundreds of kindergarteners visit Cypress College to "acquaint" themselves with the college atmosphere and to get first-hand information on the importance of an education. Eager kindergarteners were provided with several goodies and materials to enrich their learning experience.

Honey Bear Presentation

As part of our Community Outreach program, the Future Educators Club partnered with the Teacher Prep Program at Cypress College awarded a local elementary school kindergarten classroom with a prized "Honey Bear" for Best Participation. Club President - Christina Hofstetter, Vice President - Sara Calderon, and Secretary - Annie Rivera, were on hand to make the presentation. Gift bags were assembled by the ICC Representative - Nicole Greene (not pictured). The event was sponsored by our own Faculty Advisor - Bryan Seiling and Teacher Prep Coordinator - Dennis Davino (also not pictured).

Parting Words from FEC's Former Club President - Christina Hofstetter

Hello All! My name is Christina and I am the current FEC President. This is my second semester as a member of FEC and my first time at being a club officer. The experiences with the club have been absolutely wonderful; I have made great friends and have had an insightful and inspiring look into the career of teaching. Unfortunately, my time here at Cypress is coming to an end and, therefore, this is my last semester with the club. I have been accepted to CSU Long Beach where I will finish my teacher preparation and receive my Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies! Upon completion of this and once I receive my credential, I will be able to be what I have always wanted to be – an elementary school teacher.

Teaching, for me, seems to be the ultimate job. Considering the fact that I love children and enjoy helping them in any way necessary, I cannot see myself pursuing any other kind of career. I also see myself as having an advantage over my fellow peers because I happen to have a little devil of my own at home. My daughter, who is everything to me, will be five years old this summer and will be entering into Kindergarten in September. It is with her that I get a lot of insight as to how teaching will be in the future. As for right now, however, both my daughter and I have a long road ahead of us as I continue to pursue my education and strive to become a professional educator.

FEC is a great organization of students and faculty that can make the teaching path a little less stressful and a lot more fun. My hope is that everyone at Cypress College who dreams of being at the head of the classroom will explore the benefits available with the Future Educators Club and make their college experience all the better.

World Fest

The club recently participated in World Fest on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 and it was great. FEC represented Bavaria, an independent state in Germany, by serving Bavarian sponge cake with sugared blackberries on top. Other foods that were there included burritos, tacos, sushi, dirty rice, jerk chicken, and much more. Overall, the day was a lot of fun and full on good eating.
